Recent Reads 2

I love the way this implies I read quite a bit! I don't, but I'm slowly getting into it and these days, if I don't have a book to read it feels a bit strange.

King of the Gypsies I really enjoyed this book. It's an autobiography about Bartley Gorman, the greatest bareknuckle fighter of all time. Not only is it a very interesting insight into the world of 'illicit prize-fighting', but it also provides an interesting glimpse into the world of the travelling gypsies around England.

The God of Small Things by Arundathi Roy
I found this quite a difficult read, however it is a very well crafted book. I found the writing style of the author to be quite unique and creatively astounding. Some of her descriptions are genius. It is set in Kerala, southern India and simply put, the story revolves around an affluent Indian family, more importantly a pair of twins (Rahel & Esta) who's lives change one day through tragedy.

Endurance: Shackletons Incredible Voyage to the Antarctic by Alfred Lansing
I found this to be one of the best books I've ever read. And when you remind yourself that it is a true account of Sir Ernest Shackletons ill-fated expedition to Antarctica in 1912, it becomes even more outrageous. I won't go into more detail for risk of ruining it for any of you who may want to read this. I will say though, that there is a great lesson here of the importance and value of good leadership and always thinking positively no matter what the situation.
