Salta - Northwest Argentina
Salta is one of Argentina´s oldest towns, founded in the late 1500´s and sits in the foothills of the Andes mountains at 1190m above sea level. As far as towns go it´s really pretty and characterful and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there.
I love cable cars these days, most probably because they remind me of snowboarding trips, but from the top of San Bernado hill you get great views of the surrounding mountains and Salta itself. The town is also dotted with a number of colonial style cathedrals, the most impressive of them for me, being the one in Paza 9 de Julio, the main square and place to be seen in the centre of town.
Whilst in Salta we also got to experience another brilliant steak which was literally twice the size of any steak I´ve ever eaten before. I´m sure I was drunk on it afterwards and if it wasn´t for the red wine and beer that helped me through it I would definitley have been plagued by the dreaded ´meat sweats´. Salta was also good to us in another sense as it was here that I finally got my visa for Bolivia, two days before entering the country. And almost predictably, the border official didn´t even check that I had a visa as he hurriedly stamped my passport and waved me through!
The bottom pic is of me and ´Kiwi Dundee´ after our steaks.
