One night in Cambridge

Kings College before and after

Having spent a bit of time in Oxford, I've always wanted to see Cambridge and compare the two towns for myself. So we headed up there on Saturday, just for a night to make something of our Easter weekend. Usually we try get away for Easter, but this year we haven't had the time to sort out any sort of visa because of my own UK visa application.

It may have been the inclement weather (blizzardy) but if anything I was slightly disappointed. The college's are really impressive though, especially King's College which is an incredible architectural feat. What I found most strange was the inaccessibility of the river (Cam). I was hoping to walk along the river Cam and admire the Colleges and Punters from there but sadly that wasn't possible. You could walk along the river for a very short stretch but after about 50 metres it takes you away from the town and then, well you may as well be in any other field around the country.

R.I.P. 'XDU' (Pronounced 'X'udu)

It was shortlived but we thoroughly enjoyed driving you my friend. It's a shame that it was going to cost more than you were worth (financially not emotionally) to get you through your yearly M.O.T (roadworthiness test). Frankly, after 133,656 miles (214,000km) we shouldn't have been suprised, and yet we were. Why? Because you were the (blue) rock.

Nevertheless we really enjoyed our time with you and our only regret is that it couldn't have lasted longer. You took us to Cardiff to watch the Boks last year and you were there with us up in the Cotswolds when Robyn and I got engaged. Not to mention the number of little trips around town and arduous runs to Sainsbury's when you so readily lugged all our groceries home with you. We will miss you.

You never mentioned whether we should sell your parts for scrap or simply take you to that creepy place down by the river where the only things that ever come out are coke can sized pieces of compressed metal. You can rest assured though, that we will do whatever we think would suit you best.

Go well XDU.
